
Research Finds Concerns Abound over Threat of Interior Floods
A market research survey of commercial building owners, operators, and resident homeowners has
found deep concern over the threat, effects, and costs associated with interior floods – along with
recognition of the benefits of water leak detection and protection. The details of those research findings include:
Commercial Building Owners/Operators
- 90% are concerned enough about their property to have installed automated building systems and/or monitor security/temperature controls
- 67% felt the impact of a flood would adversely affect their business or tenants
- 67% feel that a flood would impact their bottom line
- 64% were somewhat or very concerned about the costs that would result from a flood
- 62% have experience flooding themselves – the majority from internal sources
- 59% didn’t carry insurance coverage – possibly due to the high deductibles for commercial buildings
- 54% were somewhat or concerned about the possible downtime a flood would cause
- 50% indicated their buildings are vacant for more than 10 hours a day
- 39% were somewhat or very concerned about the effect of a flood on their insurance rates
Of Those Who Had Suffered a Flood
- 50% said their insurance rates were affected
- 49% reported one to two days of downtime
- 20% suffered three to five days of downtime
Residential Homeowners
- 98% of homes were not equipped with any form of water leak detection
- 77% spend two weeks or more away from home
