Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS FLOODSTOPPER?

The FloodStopper™ System is a patented, high-tech water leak detection system that provides 24x7 protection against flooding due to internal plumbing failures and accidental overflows by automatically shutting-off the water supply instantly upon detection of a leak. The FloodStopper System is designed for use in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The FloodStopper System consists of low-profile electronic sensors (designed to blend into the décor of any facility), a user-friendly control panel, and a Honeywell™ shut-off valve.

FloodStopper sensors are placed on the floor at points where leaks may occur, such as water heaters, washrooms, sinks, washers, furnace, boiler and pump rooms, storage areas, kitchens or near water-related appliances and equipment throughout any residential, commercial, or industrial facility. The sensors may either be hard-wired or, in areas where access is difficult, wirelessly connected to the FloodStopper System's control panel.

When a sensor detects moisture from a water leak, it signals the control panel to instruct the system's Honeywell valve to instantly, and automatically, shut off the water supply. The control panel also emits a visual and/or an audible alarm to alert users to the shut-off. It can also contact a monitored security alarm service if so connected. The system can be manually reset at the control panel.

SINGLE ZONE & 4 ZONE CONTROLLERS– WHICH DO I NEED?

The FloodStopper System is available in single zone (up to 250 sensors) or a multi-zone configuration.

The 4-Zone system is designed to help identify where your problem has occurred. The controller is still shutting-off 1 valve. During an alarm, the LED display denotes which "zone" is in alarm, not which "sensor" is in alarm. This would allow for quicker identification of the trouble when FloodStopper is covering a large area.

WHAT COMES WITH MY SYSTEM?

All FloodStopper Systems come complete, ready to install, with the exception of wire (there is no way to know how much is needed). Included are; Honeywell Valve & Motor, Control Panel, 4 hard wired sensors, Transformer, Electrical Connector, and Instructions.

WHAT SIZE IS THE VALVE?

Residential systems come with a 1" valve. For large residences and commercial applications, Larger Systems, 1.25" thru 10" are available with either single zone or 4 zone controllers.

WHAT IF I NEED MORE THAN 4 SENSORS?

FloodStopper Systems can handle 250 sensors per zone. Individual hard wired sensors in Gray (top terminal) and White (rear terminal) are available.

WHAT IF I CANNOT RUN WIRES WHERE I NEED TO PUT A SENSOR?

The FloodStopper "RP1" Remote Wireless Package will take care of that problem. The RP1 comes with 1 transmitter (700' range) and 1 receiver. Sensors will need to be purchased and wired to the transmitter. Each Transmitter can hold 20 sensors. If additional areas need coverage, it is not necessary to purchase multiple RP1's. Individual transmitters can be purchased and easily programmed with the existing receiver. Each Receiver can have 32 transmitters programmed to it.

HOW DO I KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM?

Once FloodStopper closes the water valve, no water is flowing. The indicator light on the control panel will come on, indicating the valve is closed. You may turn on a sink, only to find no water flowing or you may flush a toilet and find it not refilling.

WHAT DO I DO IF FLOODSTOPPER CLOSES THE VALVE?

Check all sensor locations to identify the source of your problem, affect repairs, and then push the reset button on the controller.

I HAVE SEPERATE HOT & COLD WATER PIPES – DO I NEED 2 SYSTEMS?

NO! All you need is a FloodStopper Duplexing Kit (FSDK). The FSDK provides you with a second Valve & Motor along with a connector to "piggyback" it with your FloodStopper system. When a sensor detects a leak, it signals the controller, which closes both valves simultaneously.

CAN FLOODSTOPPER BE HOOKED-UP TO MY ALARM SYSTEM?

If you have a monitored security system, FloodStopper can easily be interfaced with it. The 1-zone and the 4-zone controllers both provide a set of contacts (N.O., N.C., Com.) for connection to your alarm system.

When the central station gets an alarm regarding FloodStopper they will follow the instructions you have already given them. They could call your cell phone if you are out for the night or if you are traveling, call a neighbor or one of your children who live close.
